BCW 301 Dissertation

The Dissertation will normally be an empirical investigation incorporating secondary sources. The dissertation option will enable you to demonstrate the application of those analytical, investigative and evaluative skills developed during earlier and /or concurrent components of the course. The dissertation will also allow you to pursue issues in depth and undertake your own research with limited supervision. The topic chosen will normally be based on one of the major areas of study within the degree structure or will integrate two or more of these areas.

BCW 302: Communicating Meaning

In this module, you will be encouraged to look at the nature of written discourse and at how we imply and infer ‘meaning’. It will also encourage you to explain how these ‘additional or hidden meanings’ are created and understood.

BCW 303: Discourse Analysis

The module will develop knowledge and skills in analysing texts from a linguistic perspective. It will focus on the power of language use to influence thought and exercise control of social groups within a range of social and cultural contexts.

BCW 304: Writing For Business

This module aims to enable the students to develop knowledge and skills in the area of writing for business. Students will be able to evaluate and apply knowledge and skills to their own work/organisational context. Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to write with a vocational orientation. This will be demonstrated by their involvement with a writing project set in their workplace.

The Application of Communication and Language Skills in Leadership and Management

This module enables you to develop a critical understanding of the key concepts, theories and models of Leadership and Management and evaluate and apply them in your own work/organisational context. You will be provided with opportunities to examine the distinctions between strategic and operational Leadership and Management and will be encouraged to explore the potential tensions of these in practices.
