English Language and Literature
English Language and Literature is a subject that requires students to identify and consider the ways attitudes and values are created and conveyed in speech and writing.The focus of study will be the interpretation of written and spoken language, to include poetry, prose and drama as well as a range of non-literary texts. There will also be opportunities for original writing.The literature side is dedicated to poetry and prose in the first year and drama in the second. Possible texts include a poetry anthology and Shakespeare alongside contemporary authors and dramatists.You will acquire a sophisticated knowledge of language frameworks and the manner in which they create meaning via purpose, audience and context across a range of genres.

Comparative Textual Analysis and ReviewExaminations are available in January and JuneA Level English is a pivotal subject which means that most subjects go well with it. Therefore, many careers are open to the English student, both male and female. However, the most obvious professions are law, journalism, teaching, administration, civil service, banking and the media.
