2. Course description If you've got a passion for reading, an interest in creative writing and a love of words, then why choose between English Language & Literature when you can do both! This is a great A-Level course that lets you explore the subject in both range and depth. You'll learn how and why stories are told when you study a number of different novels, and you'll look at the work of poets like John Donne and Carol Ann Duffy. Exploring Shakespeare and more modern playwrights, you'll focus on the dramatic encounters created using speech, characters, narrative and themes. And you'll get plenty of opportunity to engage with non-fiction material, including travel writing, websites, blogs and spontaneous speech. As you look at a wide selection of texts and study a range of genres, you'll learn the tools you'll need to analyse writing of all types, developing the skills and abilities to look critically and creatively at the English language and a diverse selection of literature within it. Alongside the fascinating topics you'll study, you will also be enhancing your own creative writing and completing an independent investigative essay of your choice!
