Course programme

During this A level, you will cover the following:

Language, the individual and society

You will consider the different techniques writers use and evaluate whether they are effective and how they create meanings. You will also study how children acquire language, look at the various stages of development, and make links between social interaction and language acquisition.

Language varieties, diversity and change

You will explore varieties of English, including attitudes to language diversity and language in social and geographical contexts. This will include looking at accent and dialect as well as how factors such as age, gender and occupation can affect language use. You will consider language diversity and change over time and language in different contexts from 1600 to the present day.

Language in action

You will explore and analyse language data and carry out two pieces of individual research - a language investigation and a piece of original writing with a commentary.
