Course Content
AS Unit 1 - The Modern Novel -The unit involves the study of a 20th century text. Recent texts studied are "Enduring Love" by Ian McEwan and "Snow Falling on Cedars" by David Guterson.
AS Unit 2 - Shakespeare Written Unit -This unit involves the study of Shakespeare text. We have been studying "The Taming of the Shrew". We try to support our study of the texts by theatre and film visits.
AS Unit 3 - Texts in Context -Unit 3 focuses on literature in its context. You will study a play and a collection of poetry. One text is modern and the other pre-1700.

How will I be assessed?
The AS qualification will be assessed at the end of the first year.
AS Unit 1 -is assessed by a 1 hour exam.
AS Unit 2 -is assessed by a 1 hour exam.
AS Unit 3 -is assessed by a 2 hour exam.

What can I do next?
A pass will enable the students to progress to A2.
A qualification in A Level English Literature will provide a good foundation for studying English and other arts, humanities and social science subjects in Higher Education. It is directly relevant to careers such as teaching, journalism and law. It is widely recognised as evidence of a student's critical and written skill.
