Course programme
The course will provide for care support worker and personal assistants an overview of Epilepsy, it’s care management and the
administration of Buccal Midazolam. Delivery methods will include reflective
practice, intervention tools, group work , case studies and a practical or visual
presentation.
Staff who provide support and personal care
to individuals who suffer from epilepsy in all care settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in
the client’s own home.
• Understand the main effects of epilepsy as experienced by the
service user groups
• Understand the importance of supporting service users to take
medication as directed by their doctor.
• Understand that service users may have unpredictable moods
and behaviours from epilepsy
• Know how to safely care for someone having a seizure.
• Know how to administer Buccal Midazolam and be assessed as
safe to do so.
• Know What documentation is required following a seizure
