This course is divided into three terms but you can join at any time during the year. You will gain confidence to use English for work, study and socialising. You will practise reading, writing and speaking and listening. You will develop your everyday conversations, asking and answering questions using different tenses. You will practise speaking fluently on common topics such as living in the UK using different tenses - present simple, present continuous, past simple, present perfect and future forms - with a good degree of accuracy. You will work on your vocabulary and practise understanding everyday conversations and short recordings. You will also develop your writing of short emails and letters plus writing descriptions of people, places and objects. Your will practise reading so you can understand the most important language around you and begin to read newspaper articles.

About this course

• use your English to participate in general everyday life – at home, in the street and at work
• engage in everyday conversations including asking and answering questions using different tenses including present simple, present continuous, past simple, present perfect and future forms
• pronounce auxiliaries (do, does, did, was, were, has, had, am, is, are) correctly in questions, answers and sentences
• speaking fluently on common topics using different tenses - present simple, present continuous,
past simple, present perfect and future forms - with a good degree of accuracy.
• use a range of vocabulary to talk and write about topics such as life in the UK, different cultures, work, technology, health and enjoyment.
• understanding details in everyday conversations and short recordings (TV/radio, phone messages, group discussions)
• make arrangements and appointments on the phone
• writing short emails and letters
• writing descriptions of people, places and objects
• find information in everyday texts and understand the general meaning of short news stories

By the end of this course you will also have improved your digital skills through use of Google Classroom, the internet and Microsoft Word.

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.

This will be an exciting and interesting course with lots of practice. You will work in pairs or small groups, and sometimes as a whole group. Your tutor will also work with you individually. There will be speaking and listening, reading, writing activities and games as well as the use of YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help your learning. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life. You will be expected to do some homework every week and use Google Classroom outside the class.

There are many courses you could do next or at the same time as this course. You could join a course with an exam. You can also do a number of courses without an exam. These courses include: Conversation and Pronunciation, ESOL and Singing, IT Skills for ESOL students, ESOL: Finding a Better Job, Grammar in Practice (Intermediate) and ESOL communicating at work: customer care (entry 3-level 1)..
