Our European Politics BA degree is an intellectually challenging study programme designed for students who want to gain an in-depth knowledge of politics and government with a particular emphasis on Europe. You will research the domestic politics of European countries as well as the integration of the European Union and the effect that this has had on governance in member states. You will also analyse the position of Europe in the international system.

Multi-national teaching faculty with a passion for their subject and a wealth of knowledge in the major fields of European politics.
Our degree programme combines in-depth study with flexibility, allowing you to pursue your interests in areas of politics and government.
Optional overseas study in the second semester of the second year. Current partner institutions located across Europe, the USA and South-East Asia.
You will gain an in-depth perspective on the governments, politics and histories of European countries.
Benefit from close links with the university's nationally-focused political studies departments.
Opportunities to be part of fundamental research and discussions. The department is a founding member of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, which regularly invites high-profile scholars and practitioners to events at King’s.
European Politics at King’s provides a firm grounding for a wide-range of careers, including in EU institutions and national government, but also journalism, public relations, consultancies, think tanks and charitable organisations or NGOs.

Our graduates go on to work in a range of professions including in EU institutions and national government, but also journalism, public relations and consultancies for various kinds. While some choose to continue their studies at graduate level.

Optional ModulesYou are required to take at least 30 credits from a range of European Politics optional modules, each worth 15 or 30 credits. 30 credits must focus on one or more European country.
Optional modules available may typically include:
- Extended Essay (30 credits)
- Contemporary German Politics (15 credits)
- German Foreign Policy (15 credits)
- Contemporary French Politics (30 credits)*
- Contemporary Spanish Politics: Institutions & Actors (15 credits)
- Contemporary Spanish Politics: Issues & Public Policy (15 credits)
Note: these modules require that students have an A in A-Level French or equivalent.
You will then choose a number of modules from a wide range of European & International Studies modules to take your total up to 120 credits for the year. You can select further credits from other optional modules from other departments (approved by the course leader) to bring your total for the year to 120 credits.
