Course Description
What will I learn on this course?
AS
A foundation in Politics and Citizenship. The emphasis is on current affairs as well as the theory of government in the UK.

Unit 1 Democracy, Elections, Political Parties and Pressure Groups.

Unit 2 Constitutions, Parliament, Prime Minister and Cabinet, Judges and

civil Liberties.

A2

Unit 3 Social and Economic issues in the UK such as the Welfare State,

Law and order, the Environment and the Economy

Unit 4 The EU institutions, EU policies, the effects of EU membership on

the UK, further EU integration and future policy.

What could I do with a qualification in this subject?
It is a good basis for Law, Journalism and Business studies as well as the Politics, Economics and Philosophy degree combination which can lead to careers in the civil service lobbying and more direct political careers.

Politics is a good subject to combine with a GNVQ business course as it is clearly relevant to everyday life.

Science students find it a useful humanity subject to combine with their 3 science courses.

What kind of assessments will I have to complete to get my qualification?

2 Units of assessment based on the following topics each 1hr. 20mins.

· People and Politics

· Governing the UK

A2
A further 2 papers each is 1hr. 30mins

· Political Issues in the UK.

· Political Issues in the EU

There is no coursework assessment, students are required to keep a file of current newspaper cutting during their course.
