About this course

A keen interest or experience of exercise to music and aerobics. A basic certificate of knowledge in physiology and anatomy is essential. A good standard of personal fitness. An interview with course staff to ascertain qualifications and aspirations.

Introduction:
This course is designed to cover all theoretical and practical elements that are essential for planning, preparing and delivering safe, effective and professional exercise sessions.This leads to a central YMCA qualification in Exercise to Music.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time course lasts for 4 hours per week and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent¿s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course covers classroom lectures on theoretical aspects of exercise to music along with practical sessions leading groups and assignments, and practical assessments in exercise to music classes.

The modules include planning, instructing and evaluating exercise to music lessons, health and safety issues, customer care and the provision of physical activities.

Assessment:
  • A series of written theory assignments on customer care, promoting physical activity and exercise progression and adaptation
  • ongoing practical assessment
  • a final full 45-minute practical assessment
  • a formal written examination.
Candidates are responsible for providing two participants for the final practical assessment.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful students can gain employment or self-employment within the private or public exercise and fitness industry such as teaching and instructing aerobics and/or exercise to music classes. Alternatively students can progress onto related YMCA level 3 qualifications.

Any additional costs will be given at interview.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
