This course is for complete beginners to sculpture. You will be guided through a series of quick and exciting processes including modelling in clay, casting in plaster and constructing a small sculpture, including the use of ‘ready mades‘. You will be shown images of related work made by other artists. Everyone will work alongside each other in a mutually supportive environment in which you will learn from your specialist tutor and each other.

About this course

- Make a small scale plaster cast
- Explore how to make a small sculpture using mixed media materials
- Have a basic understanding of scale and proportion and how to incorporate this into your work
- Start to use sculpture tools and equipment fit for the day’s activity.

All basic tools and materials are provided. Please bring a sketchbook. You will need to wear sturdy closed shoes

You will learn through practical demonstrations, group and individual discussions and tutorials, slide lectures and personal tuition. A wide range of learning resources and equipment are provided.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

You will be guided how to
- develop an idea from a brief
- produce preparatory drawings to be translated onto clay
- how to prepare ready- mades as moulds for plaster casts
- use plaster including mixing plaster, application of colour into plaster and pouring
- making a simple small sculpture using mixed media
- you will be introduced to related sculpture by other artists.
- your will receive advice about an appropriate type and level of sculpture course to join, should you become hooked and want to do more.
