This course is for people who find it hard to sing the same notes as others, and who may have been told that they are tone deaf. It offers an opportunity to explore and experiment with your voice under expert guidance, develop your listening skills and sing simple tunes.

Course programme

- An introduction to how the voice works
- Group vocal exercises to explore your voice
- Listening exercises to develop your sense of pitch
- Singing simple songs.

- Tutor presentation and explanation, including handouts - Singing and vocal exercises, as a group and individually - Listening exercises and tests - Class discussion. Please bring a pencil and a folder for worksheets, handouts and music. You may also wish to bring water to drink and a voice recorder.

Additional information

Singing for beginners classes are offered every term, on a variety of days and times. Alternatively, ‘Singers: improve your intonation’ will enable you to keep working specifically on your intonation if you need to. If you are new to City Lit singing classes, please take a moment to read our blog: Choosing a singing class at City lit which lists our full sequence of singing classes. You could also drop in to one of our advice sessions where we can hear you sing and help you choose the right course. Please bring a piece to sing with simple piano accompaniment.
