Course Overview

This is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement designed for those working as teachers/trainers in England. You must have a teaching placement or teaching hours organised prior to starting the qualification.

This qualification combines the study of underpinning theories, frameworks and research into effective development of practical teaching strategies. It requires 8 observations and a minimum of 100 hours teaching practice over two years.

You will cover 9 units examining and developing aspects of teaching, learning and assessment in education and training, the application of theory to practice, developing equality and diversity in teaching, preparing to become a personal tutor, exploring wider professional practice, managing behaviour and developing resources.

The programme encourages you as a trainee to think independently and to engage with debates around education. One to one appointments with your tutor are a regular part of the course where there is opportunity to discuss your progress.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities. In order to prepare you for the demands of teaching there is a focus on developing English and maths.

The course runs from September to July for each of the two years and will require trainees to be in college on Wednesday mornings in term time.

Application to this course is made direct to UCC using the Level 5 - Education and Training Diploma application form available via our How to Apply page.
