Course programme

This course is for people who want to research their family history but don't know where to start!
You will learn where to find information from record offices and online research, and how to understand the documents you find.

What will the course cover and how will it be taught?
This course will cover how to research family history using

  • Local record offices
  • Military records
  • Local history groups
  • Internet-based resources (Note that this will be for information only. There is no internet access at the venue)
  • It will include information about which historical documents can be used to find the facts about family members from the past.

Your tutor will discuss the course content with the class and may make some adjustments to the syllabus based on the needs of the group. They will also try to accommodate individual requirements where it is practical to do so.
You will learn by group discussion, talks, paired exercises and computer sessions.
