What are the entry requirements?
Four GCSE at grade C or above or GNVQ Intermediate in Art and Design, or a First Diploma in Fashion, or other level 2 equivalent qualification in Fashion and Clothing. Mature students who can demonstrate that they have an interest in working in the clothing trade have a good portfolio of work and good communication skills are also considered. All potential students must demonstrate a genuine interest and commitment to entering the clothing industry.

- Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
- Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2
You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.

BTEC National Diploma in Design (Fashion and Clothing)
Where can it lead?
Progression is usually to the following routes: - Further study on a Higher National Diploma or Degree. You could gain employment in the fashion industry or set up you own fashion business.
What will I study?
The course concentrates on developing a broad range of design and technical skills. You will be expected to be able to work independently in order to develop your skills fully. Subjects you will study include, Design, Pattern Cutting, Pattern Modelling, Garment Construction, Textiles, Fashion Marketing, Personal & Professional Development, Key Skills in Communications, Application of Number, and IT.
How will I be taught?
Learning is mainly through the use of practical demonstrations and then learner practice, but you will also take part in lectures, discussions, presentations, group work, individual project work and tutorials.
How will I be assessed?
Units are assessed through practical projects and written assignments. Some projects are integrated across a number of units, others are unit specific. For BTEC you are graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
What support is available while I am on the course?
You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the College offers a wide range of student services including learning support, language support and guidance. Student Services also offers advice on finance, childcare, housing, and provides personal support if required. There is a Learning Resource Centre with a good range of books and magazines, with computers and Internet access available to all learners.
