Course programme
Learn the processes and techniques of contemporary fashion design, then launch your collection at our end-of-course degree show. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge you need for a career in fashion, and create a portfolio to catch the eye of employers and studios across the globe.
This course will get you close to all the issues and challenges of contemporary fashion design. From an experimental and industry perspective, you’ll explore its materials, processes and production, and learn how to communicate your ideas creatively. You’ll develop your conceptual thinking and practical skills, and become a professional, innovative fashion designer with an individual identity.
With a focus on womenswear and menswear, and the practical design methods used by professionals, you’ll try out techniques including traditional and creative pattern cutting and draping, surface textiles with knitwear, styling, and digital media. You’ll also investigate the culture surrounding fashion: what informs fashion trends, and consumer and market analysis? This knowledge will be crucial for marketing your work, and you’ll be given a chance to experiment with it in branding and promotion work.
In your last year, you’ll create your final collection and promote your skills to the public and potential employers at our annual degree show. But this isn’t the only chance you’ll get to show off your work: throughout the course, there will be opportunities to take part in other shows.
Supported by our highly experienced teaching staff in the creative and dynamic learning environment of Cambridge School of Art, you’ll be encouraged to develop your own creative path, hone your visual and oral communication skills and networking skills, and collaborate with students from other courses such as photography and film.
When you graduate, you’ll be well equipped for employment in today’s fashion industry.
