About this course
You’ll learn to work confidently and creatively with a wide range of different materials. After completing your foundation, you’ll have the skills and knowledge you need for full honours degree study, and progress directly onto the BA Fashion Design course.
On your full honours degree, placement opportunities allow you to cement your skills in industry. Previous students have worked with Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Reiss and ASOS.
This must include at least 32 points from at least one A level or equivalent BTEC National qualifications (to include a relevant subject, such as Art, Design, Design Technology, Textiles and Graphics). For example:CDD at A Level with a grade C in a relevant subject.MMP in BTEC Extended Diploma in a relevant subject.A combination of qualifications which must include an A level grade C or BTEC grade M in a relevant subject and may include AS levels, EPQ and general studies

How you learn
This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.The course is suitable if you don’t meet the entry requirements for our BA Fashion Design course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other art and design foundation year students, then move on to the degree.The foundation year aims to embed the creative process, and provide contextual awareness of different art and design disciplines. You will work on self-directed and collaborative projects.

Degree preparation
After the foundation year, you will be ready to start the full degree. BA/BSc Fashion Design is an engaging and creative course that allows you hands-on experience of the modern fashion industry. You’ll utilise cutting-edge techniques and equipment in your design work, and develop a unique aesthetic.
Live projects
Throughout the foundation year, you’ll create a body of work of applied projects, and undertake independent research into art and design.
