Content
Since its establishment in 1996 the BA (Hons) Fashion Management course has reflected and responded to the needs of the fashion business. We recognise that there is a demand for highly skilled managers and executives educated with a particular understanding of the needs of fashion businesses.
Structure
In the first year you will be introduced to fundamental business concepts and to the different make up of fashion businesses. You will have a wide range of learning experiences including lectures, workshops, seminars, presentations, group projects, and visiting speakers. These will help you to make choices about your future career.
In the second year, you will look at the application of business practice and operations in fashion businesses with particular interest to your chosen pathway. You will have an opportunity to undertake a management focused consultancy project with a fashion company. In the past these have included Jigsaw, Jaeger, River Island, George at Asda, Woolworths, Tesco, The North Face, Marks and Spencer, Uniqlo, Erickson Beamon, Topshop, Mind, Kurt Geiger, Burberry, TK Maxx, Warehouse, Selfridges, Richmond Classics, Pollyanna, Mulberry, Belle & Bunty, Thomas Pink, Debenhams, Next, Caramel Baby&Child and many others.
At the end of the second year there is the opportunity for you to undertake an optional placement year in the fashion business leading to an additional qualification: Diploma in Professional Studies. Only students who have successfully completed year two will be able to apply. Previously students have gained placements with many companies including The North Face (in Amsterdam), Lanvin, Chloe, Vannina Vesperini, Paul and Joe, Agnes b, Premiere Vision (all in Paris), Urban Outfitters, Mulberry, Debenhams, Pringle, New Look, Shanghai Tan, Topshop, Base London and George at Asda.
The final year of the course concentrates on strategic management issues which affect the future of the fashion business, and allows you to develop ideas and strategies that may lead to a more successful and sustainable fashion industry.
