What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements but this course is especially for people whose first language is not English. All students will be given a standard diagnostic test at interview to identify learning support and other needs.

- Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
- Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2
You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.
What qualification will I receive?
Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life (E3), BTEC Award in Fashion & Clothing Level 1, BTEC Certificate in Fashion & Clothing Level 1.
Where can it lead?
Progression is usually to the following routes:- Further study on the Fashion & Clothing programme at Level 2 Employment in the Fashion Industry Setting up own Fashion Business
What will I study?
The course concentrates on developing written and spoken language skills as well as introducing you to some Fashion skills. Subjects covered include: -
Introduction to the basic skills of designing, cutting and sewing clothes
English, to help you improve your speaking and writing skills
Study skills / organisation of work
How will I be taught?
Learning is mainly through the use of practical demonstrations and then learner practice, but you will also take part in lectures, discussions, presentations, group/individual project work and tutorials.
How will I be assessed?
Units are assessed mostly through practical projects with one or two written assignments. Some projects are integrated across a number of units, others are unit specific. You will be able to pass units at Award or Certificate Level.
What support is available while I am on the course?
You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the College offers a wide range of student services including learning and language support, guidance and counseling. The College's Student Services also offers advice on finance, childcare, housing, and provides personal support if required.
