This popular and well-established programme combines the academic study of film, television and digital media with the chance to develop your creative skills in a range of practice-oriented modules. Our BA Film and Media will give you a solid grounding in core knowledge and key skills that will equip you to work in the creative and cultural industries.
You will learn how technology, business and human creativity have forged the contemporary media world in which we live. You will be challenged to engage critically and imaginatively with a wide variety of forms and styles from around the world and from different historical periods. And you will have the chance to study screenwriting, cinematography, sound design and digital editing, from both practical and critical points of view.
Our teaching staff are passionate about film and media; many are highly ranked researchers in their field, while others have extensive practical experience in the media industries. They will change the way that you see the world around you, and help you to acquire new skills and develop your intellectual confidence.
This course is also available for full-time evening study over three years.
Progression paths are available to our MA Screenwriting, MA Film Programming and Curating, and MA Film and Screen Media.

About this course
Graduates can pursue careers in film and television companies, museums and galleries, arts administration and teaching. This degree may also be useful in becoming a programme researcher (broadcasting/film/video), museum/gallery curator, arts administrator or higher education lecturer.

We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. We may waive formal entry requirements based on judgement of academic potential. In this case, admission is normally based on an interview and you may also be asked to complete a written task.

Course programme
This programme is structured to develop your knowledge and skills throughout the degree, with core courses in film and media to allow you to progress to a range of stimulating options. You take 12 modules in total, with three modules being completed each year.
In Year 1, you take a compulsory module and a core module, and choose a Level 4 option module.
In Years 2 and 3, you take a core module, and choose one Level 4 and one Level 5 option module.
In Year 4, you undertake a compulsory final-year project and choose two Level 6 option modules.
