About this course

Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at grade A*-C apply.
In addition you will need to have achieved grade B or above in English. It would be an advantage to have prior experience of textual study (from literature or humanities studies) at GCSE level.
Plus a minimum APS Score: 39

Aim This course is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film. You will study cinema as a medium, as an art form and as a social and economic institution. Part of your studies will develop your critical understanding of the options available to film makers in their creative decision-making. You will have the opportunity to study different types of films, developing skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection.
Content During the course you will:
· Broaden your knowledge and understanding of how a film works formally and stylistically
· Deepen your understanding of how cinema functions as a business and as an institution
· Identify messages and values in films
· Develop your knowledge and understanding in practical work such as storyboarding and screenwriting.

Year 1 - AS level
· FM1 - Exploring film form
· FM2 - British and American film.

Year 2 - A level
· FM3 - Film research and creative projects
· FM4 - Varieties of film experience - issues and debates.

Progression/career opportunities
The successful completion of this course will allow students to progress onto a range of Higher Education courses or to enter a career in the film industry.

This course is also an option for National Award/Certificate in Film Making (Digital Media).

Extra information
You will need a laboratory coat and safety glasses, which you can purchase at cost from the College.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
