Course programme
This is one of our most popular and successful courses and has been running for over 20 years. Many of our ex-students are now working in the industry.
This six day Foundation Course (spread over six Saturdays) is designed to give you a thorough grounding in the basics of filmmaking and an opportunity to develop your practical skills. It covers the basics you need to know about scriptwriting, lighting, sound, camera work and direction as well as pre-production, producing, editing and post production. You'll also learn about visual storytelling by building a story through individual shots. All modules are geared towards preparing for the main Super 16mm shoot project. You write a short script with a partner to a set brief, which you then either direct or camera operate on the shoot day and which you both then edit on Avid Media Composer. You end up with a Super 16mm short film on DVD to start building or to add to your showreel.
By the end of the course you'll have gained enough experience to create your own productions And you'll know if you've got what it takes to make a career in this competitive industry.
All our modules are taught by working filmmakers and are held at the fantastic professional facilities at London Film Academy. Tutors on previous Foundation Courses have included:
- Julian Doyle (Editor, DP and Special FX, credits include "Brazil", "Time Bandits" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail")
- Brian Donovan (Production Manager – "Star Wars Episode II", "Bridget Jones Diary")
- Steve Brooke Smith (Camera Operator/DOP, credits include "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy")
