First Aid - Skills Update / Basic Life Support

Course Content

Candidates should demonstrate their competence to:

• Assess the situation in an emergency;
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.

Basic Life Support Training provides theory and practice elements of basic life support. Presents current 2000 European Resuscitation Council and UK Resuscitation Guidelines as a format for the session. The opportunity will be given to each candidate to perform Airway Management, Rescue Breathing and Cardiac Massage - in a simulated emergency situation - using a mannequin.
