Description
Designed to enable those already holding a First Aid at Work Certificate to re-qualify, the course enables people to cope with accidents and illness at work. The course instructs and enables employees to treat life-threatening illness and cope with accidents at work. The certificate is validated by HSE and therefore enables employers to comply with the HSE (First Aid) Act.
Course Length
Two working days (14 hours).
What will I study?
The following will be studied:
Action at an Emergency - checking for danger, coping with the situation, using bystanders, getting help
Fractures - dealing with broken bones, dislocations, sprains and strains
CPR - cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (mouth-to-mouth and heart massage)
Severe Bleeding - control of external bleeding, use of pressure points, bandaging techniques
Unconsciousness - management of the unconsciousness casualty
Serious Illness - heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes and others
Casualty Management - care and treatment of the conscious casualty
Anatomy and Physiology - knowledge of basic anatomy is essential
Reporting and Record Keeping - first-aiders must ensure accurate and complete records are kept
First Aid Boxes - contents and construction
Infectious Diseases - the implications for first-aiders at work
How will I learn?
A practical approach is taken, some formal input, but mostly demonstrations and practice of techniques.
How will I be assessed?
By examination, part 1 - written, part 2 - bandaging, part 3 - CPR.
