The course is divided into 10 units covering topics relevant to floristry. If you are looking to start a career in floristry then this is the course for you. The course is fast moving, imaginative and fun, though you have to be motivated and willing to learn new skills. It will provide you with the basic practical and theoretical knowledge you need. The lecturer has many years experience both teaching and in the profession. She teaches with a passion about something she is passionate about.

What you need to know
How will I study?

Units include: Theory & practical floristry skills including art & design - The colour wheel and its importance; The application of the principles and elements of design. Conditioning unit - the botanical names for cut flowers & foliages; How to unpack, check, condition, price your stock. Plant unit - basic plant processes relevant to floristry; Botanical names for flowering & foliage plants. Hand tied unit - a range of hand ties suitable for all occasions. Wedding unit - covering basic wedding designs. Funeral designs suitable for funerals and sympathy designs in both modern and traditional styles. Flower arrangement unit - in different mediums to suit all tastes. Display unit- in-store & window work. Function decorating unit - how to decorate for a function. If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and maths and work experience.
How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a classroom environment. The lessons will be structured to include lots of demonstrations, practical workshops with constructive feedback. You will be inspired and encouraged to develop your creative skills. You will have some time to play and experiment. You will have home study and homework that is all part of your progression that you will be responsible for.
How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed for practical designs once you are ready and these will be under timed constraints relevant to industry. You will have written assessments on components of the course. You will also produce a portfolio of course work which will be graded with a pass, merit or distinction.
