6 Weekly Career Courses Out of the Bloom Flower school

All 6 Weekly courses commence at 10am and finish at 16.00 hours and Lunch brake between 13.00 - 14.00 hours

Six Weekly Course Curriculum:

Week 1 Technical skills

  • Day 1 Monday am Instruction Familiarisation with flowers, conditioning, treatment, getting to know the different types, their purposes, and how to best keep them fresh.
    Monday pm Practice students must condition and treat all the flowers that they will be using for the week.
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction first Hand tied bouquet: this particular bouquet is for the student to develop hand control and co ordination with the visual, in other words for the eyes to give the correct instructions and for the hands and fingers to execute with discipline. Fist way of gift wrapping and aqua packing.
    Tuesday pm Practice students must execute this bouquet twice.
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction Second Hand tied bouquet: this bouquet is for the student to learn symmetry, colour co ordination, handling difficult flowers, and precision in the position of each flower Wednesday pm Practice students will execute two diffent bouquets based on the above instruction
  • Day 4 Thursday am Instruction Third Hand tied: this Hand tied bouquet will be made specifically for a table centre, will be placed in glass and decorated for a wedding table centre. Ways of decorating the inside of the vase will be shown.
    Thursday pm Practice Students will execute the bouquet and finish their wedding table centre.
  • Day 5 Friday am Instruction Fourth Hand tied: This is a Bridal - Wedding bouquet. Contemporary English Rose posie finished with silk ribbon, pearl pins and all the accessories available in todays markets. Very important bouquet.
    Friday pm Practice Students will make their first Bridal- Wedding bouquet hand tied.

Week 2 Technical skills using Oasis-Foam

  • Day 1 Monday am Instruction First flower arrangement using oasis. Small-Medium size in container, table centre. This instruction is to initiate the student in using the oasis, learning how to get the correct angle, learning how to achieve the shape they need and most importantly learning how to control the size-width-height.
    Monday pm Practice Students will copy and perform the same flower arrangement and learning how to use their foliage as well as the flowers.
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction Flower Design using oasis in Vase. How to dress the vase first, then an English Flower arrangement with garden greens and mixed pastel colour flowers.
    Tuesday pm Practice Students will copy and perform the same flower arrangement. This is a very versatile arrangement which can be used for any occasion.
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction Long trailing flower arrangement in oasis for wedding top table, mantelpiece, or even for funeral. Usually this arrangement is 4ft long.
    Wednesday pm Practice Students will copy and execute the same arrangement
  • Day 4 Thursday am Instruction Tall flower arrangement in oasis. This is arrangement is a mini pedestal This arrangement is a mini pedastal. a mini pedestal. This arrangement will be made again, more advanced and much bigger at a later time during the course This is again a very important arrangement for the student to learn how to make traditional small medium or large displays for church weddings for Hotel receptions and many other Formal events.
    Thursday pm Practice students will execute the arrangement. Sometimes this arrangement takes longer so the student must be prepare to stay on a bit longer this afternoon till they finish their design. ared to finish the arrangement of Friday morning
  • Day 5 Friday am The students will finish their arrangement from Thursday.
    Friday pm The student will make a flower design in oasis of their own choice, colours, flowers, container.

Week 3

  • Day 1 Monday all day: The students will spend their day in the shop. They will be instructed and supervised in the basics of keeping a shop. They will condition, clean, treat, flowers, vases, containers. Basically the first steps of looking after a flower business.
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction Wiring. The students will be shown how to wire different flowers and create a garland with flowers.
    Tuesday pm The student will practice and complete their mini garland with wired flowers.
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction A complete Wedding bouquet with orchids. All wired.
    Wednesday pm The students will copy and make their Wired Wedding Bouquet all with orchids.
  • Day 4 Thursday am Instruction A complimentary Buttonhole, Corsage, and Hair flowers to match their Wedding Bouquet of yesterday. All wired.
    Thursday pm The students will copy, make and complete the morning's instruction.
  • Day 5 Friday am All day at the shop. The students will be shown how to deal with a very large delivery of Flowers directly from Holland. They will condition, treat, bunch together all the flowers.
    Friday pm The students will, with supervision, display the fresh flower. Price the flower. Make sure their workshop is cle hop is clean before they go home.

Week 4

  • Day 1 Monday All day at the shop. The students will refresh all the flowers that need to be refreshed. Then they will make hand-tied bouquets, gift wrap them, price them and display them. Usually they have enough time to make up to 3 hand tied bouquets, complete with gift wrapping. They make sure they leave their workshop clean before they go.
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction A hand tied Victorian style Bridal Bouquet complete with Buttonhole and hair flowers.
    Tuesday pm The student will copy and make the complete instruction
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction Wedding Top Table flower design, complete with napkin flowers and chair flowers
    Wednesday pm The students will copy and make the instruction.
  • Day 4 Thursday am Instruction Topiary Tree. Full instruction how to built from beginning a topiary tree, complete with a modern sphere head full of flowers modern, sphere shape head, all flowers covered and standing in ceramic pot here shape head, all flowers
    Thursday pm The students will make and finish the same.
  • Day 5 Friday am All day at the shop. The students will once again deal with all the fresh flowers, make bouquets but now also try to approach the customers (if they are confident enough) so they can test their ability to create a bouquet according to the customers request. This is quite important for their confidence and to see if they can discipline their floristry abilities to the customers taste. And of course test their speed.

Week 5

  • Day 1 Monday All day at the shop. The students will by now be able to know the procedure of how to prepare the shop for the day. They will be confident to display, make bouquets All part of work experience.
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction A pyramid of Rose heads in glass container. This instruction usually takes around 100-120 roses. It can be for any formal occasion and they will learn the method of making it for any size pyramid. Finish it with modern decoration with glitter, grasses and glitter. In glass.
    Tuesday pm The students will make their own pyramid of rose heads, complete.
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction A "lolly- pop" all roses, in oasis, bridal bouquet. Same method can apply to vase displays.
    Wednesday pm The students will make the same, complete with decoration and glitter and grasses.
  • Day 4 Thursday am Instruction A long trailing "tear-drop" wedding bouquet in oasis with various flowers and foliage.
    Thursday pm The students will make the same, complete.
  • Day 5 Friday More work experience. By now the Students are familiar with all the duties of a shop. Preparing, designing, displaying, helping the customers, gift wrapping and of course making more and more designs. They can see if they can sell them.


Week 6

  • Day 1 Monday Work experience at the shop
  • Day 2 Tuesday am Instruction Funeral work. The first funeral wreath and how to decorate it. Complete with the European Ribbon finishing.
    Tuesday pm The students will copy and complete the above.
  • Day 3 Wednesday am Instruction Mini gardens with Plants. This is a new and wonderful topic in our school. The demand by customers for Planted arrangements with live
    Wednesday pm plants (mini gardens) is very high and the students will enjoy the instruction and then designing their own, fully decorated.
  • Day 4 Thursday am VISIT TO COVENT GARDEN We start at 6 am meeting at Covent Garden Flower Market and tour the whole market. After that we have lunch at a fashionable English restaurant , where the students can make question of everything they saw in the Market. Thursday pm The day usually finishes after lunch, around 3pm as the students had an early start and they are tired. The Students will be given their Certificates and CD's with a glass of Champaigne.
  • Day 5 Friday Work experience. Now the students can easily make their own designs at the shop.
