A practical vocational course to prepare students for work in business administration, or progression on to the BA (Hons) Management.


This two year (four years part-time) vocational degree will provide students with the skills and abilities to work at a senior level in administration. It also provides a platform from which to progress into management. The Foundation Degree in Business Administration programme combines theory and practical tasks to develop IT, communication and office administration skills. In year two, students will also gain an understanding of the wider business environment and carry out a research project. Transferable skills that are of key importance for the workplace will be developed throughout the course, for example teamwork, organisational skills and self confidence.

Work placements with key employers in Colchester and London prepare students for employment. The programme also prepares students for progression onto the BA (Hons) Management final year.

Previous graduates work in the hospitality industry, human resources, finance, marketing, education and logistics. Employment in a range of senior administrative roles including office management or as an executive PA. Roles include personal assistant, marketing co-ordinator, senior administrator and team manager.


Course Progression


Achievement of the FdA Business Administration will allow students to gain direct entry onto the final year of Colchester

Institute’s BA (Hons) Business Innovation and Applied Management




Typically, students on this course will have 100 UCAS Points. The minimum requirement is for 60 UCAS points achieved through A Levels, or an equivalent qualification, and 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including maths and English or Functional Skills equivalent. Students without formal qualifications but with appropriate work experience will be considered individually. Students whose first language is not English will require an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent. Discretionary literacy and IT competency tests may be required.

Applying for a Full-Time Degree-Level course



Apply through UCAS



If you would like to apply for any of Colchester Institute's Degree Level courses, your method of application will differ depending on whether
you want to apply for a full-time or part-time version of your chosen course. If you are applying full-time, you will need to apply through the
Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), which is a UK-based charity whose main role is providing the application process for almost
all British universities.



The service cost £23 for a multi application and £12 for a single application in 2015, however it is possible this may increase for 2016 applicants.
Each course has a unique "course code" that you will need to make note of and use during your applciation. You can find out more information and

Applying for a Part-Time Degree-Level course


All part-time degree-level courses are not offered through UCAS, and must be applied for directly through Colchester Institute.

Applying as a Full-Time International Student (EU & Overseas)


Applications for Higher Education courses from International Students must also be made via the Universities
and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Applications can be made on-line from any country via the UCAS website
at www.ucas.com. Details of all eligible courses
are given at this site, Colchester Institute's UCAS reference number is CINST C75.



International Applications made via UCAS will be forwarded to us for processing but the offer and acceptance
procedure is made through UCAS and not directly with us.

Applying as an Part-Time International Student (EU only)


Students coming into the UK on a Tier 4 (General) student visa will only be eligible to apply
for full-time courses at a minimum NQF level 3
or above or full-time English Language Programmes.
