Course content

All students study nine core business modules; three career-path modules and four work based learning modules, all over two years.

Marketing

This is a traditional area of expertise in the College and aims to provide a knowledge and understanding of the managerial and organisational techniques of the Marketing function. You will study the following modules: Business Law, Marketing Information & Marketing Relationships. This course will provide full exemption from the first year of the certificate in Marketing professional qualification and entry to the advanced Certificate, stage 2.

Finance
Finance is the language of business. This programme provides a good grounding in basic finance and accountancy. It may also give exemption from some of the professional accountancy qualification stages, for instance the foundation stage of CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants qualifications, which are delivered part-time at West Herts College. The finance modules you will study are Introductory Accounting, Financial Accounting & Management Accounting.

Human Resources
This programme provides an excellent foundation for work in the specialist area of HR and is also a good foundation for careers in general management. On the HR stream you will study Business Law, Recruitment, Selection & Induction and Performance Management & Employee Relations.

Public Relations
The programme provides a good foundation for a career in Public Relations. You will study a range of Business and PR modules across both years, including PR Fundamentals, Creating PR and PR Media.

Travel & Tourism
The programme provides a good foundation for a management career in the leisure services industry. On the Travel & Tourism pathway will study Tourism Destinations, Travel & Tourism Operations and Travel Services.

Advertising

Understand key attributes to completing successful advertising campaigns. Why choose TV or magazines to advertise? These and many other key aspects will be developed, such as creative production and development.

Progression

Students completing the Foundation Degree may apply to transfer to the University to complete their studies to honours degree level achieving a BA(Hons) in Business Administration after a final third year of study.

Additional information

Payment options: Year 1: Students are liable for tuition fees of £3000 to the University of Hertfordshire. A Consortium College Award of £1500 is payable to every student in two separate payments of £750 dependent on the student's attendance on their chosen course. This can be used for an early payback of tuition fees or to supplement living expenses. Year 2: Students progressing to the second or subsequent year of their course will be liable for fees of £1200 to the University of Hertfordshire. There is no Consortium College Award.
