Course programme
Applications are welcomed from mature candidates who can evidence both the ability to study at this level and a current competence through relevant industrial experience.
The part-time 3-year Foundation Degree (FdA) in Business and Management (240 credits) is intended for those who are working in a supervisory or management role or aspiring to progress to such a role. It provides students with the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised academic qualification and develop knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to make a more effective contribution to their organisation.
The course is a combination of taught units of study, work-based learning and an annual three-streamed Business Conference. Developed in collaboration with major employers in the region, the curriculum is flexible, relevant and prepares the successful student for entry to an honours degree course, which can be completed through a further 18 months of part-time study.
We welcome applications from mature candidates (over age 21) whose work experience will have prepared them to succeed in this degree. Admission to the programme is open to those who may not have formal qualifications, but can demonstrate the potential to benefit from the programme and complete it successfully. Normal University APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning) policies and Portsmouth Business School procedures will apply. Application needs to be made to University of Portsmouth in the first instance using the online form*.
A feature of the foundation degree is the student’s employer, in the provision of a mentor where possible, and access to appropriate work-based learning opportunities.
Year 1 (Thursday)
You will study a range of subjects including how to manage information and financial resources, and how to manage people. There will also be a substantial work-based learning component and you will take part in the annual business conference.
