Introduction:
This is a new and innovative Foundation Degree which focuses on person-centred counselling along with solution focused approaches. The courses is designed to meet the needs of an evolving market and the growing demand for listening therapies; it gives individuals from a wide range of backgrounds an opportunity to develop their knowledge and practice.
Study Mode & Location:
This is a full-time course that lasts 2 Years. The course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
The units you will study are as follows:

· Rights Wrongs and Legalities
· Person Centered Therapy
· Personal Development
· Communication and Counselling Skills
· Supervision and Consultation
Year 2
· Work Based Module
· Advanced Counselling Skills
· Developing Person Centered Therapy
· Life Experiences and Mental Health
· Counselling Practice
· Cognitive, Behavioral and Solution Focused Interventions
You will also undertake a work placement for 150 hours counselling clients and 5o hour's work place experience, there are 2 weekend mandatory residentials, one in the first year and one in the second year and some personal counselling as part of the course.
Assessment:
A variety of assessment techniques will be staged throughout the two years to assist you to manage the programme workload. Assessment will include: presentation of video- and audio-recordings of counselling practice, written assignments, a review of personal learning, supervision reports and portfolios of evidence.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This programme will provide you with the skills to work in a variety of counselling settings and will include NHS, Independent and Voluntary sectors. Successful completion of this course allows students to apply for progression to a full honours degree with Edge Hill University, and on completion the BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care Practice is awarded.
