Foundation Degree (FdSc) Computing - Systems and Networking

What is the course about?
This course has been designed to meet the growing demand for computing professionals capable of specifying, installing and maintaining computer systems. Designed to offer a broad base, the course includes developing basic capability in system design, database development and web-site development as well as higher levels of capability in network technology and management.

Course Structure
The Programme is delivered at Selby College in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds Met) and results in the award of the FdSc. In order to complete the FD programme, the student will study 16 modules. Full-time students complete 8 modules per year. Part-time students usually complete 6 modules in each of the first two years and four in the third year but this may vary slightly, depending on the programme followed. A module is normally completed in one semester.

Learning Methods
Because of the varied nature of the modules, a wide range of learning methods will be used. These may include formative assessment, lectures, tutorials, practical labs, independent study, group work and individual research.

Assessment Methods
These will vary from module to module but may include individual and/or group assignments, examinations, formal presentations, practical tests and reflective reports.
* These modules are delivered in a Cisco Academy environment and enable the student to complete the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualification in Semesters 1 to 4.

Progression Routes
On successful completion of the programme, students are entitled to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Top Up programme at Leeds Metropolitan University - or any other university which offers a top up programme - which is usually a one-year Full time course.
