About this course
You will need a minimum of one A Level supported by at least 5 GCSEs in the A*-C range or the equivalent. When you are invited for an interview you should bring a portfolio of work, which demonstrates your creative ability and commitment to the subject.

What will I do on the course?
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is a route to higher education. In the first term, you will experience different disciplines within art and design whilst developing core skills centred on drawing and research methods.
During the second and third term you will specialise, choosing from a range of options including:
- Fine art (painting, sculpture, printmaking)
- Fashion and textile design
- Graphic design
- Illustration
- Photo media
- Theatre costume
- Three dimensional design (ceramics, interior, product and theatre design).
Alongside this course you may be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications. These can include more specialist awards relevant to the subject you are studying.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is assessed on a continuous basis through practical and written assignments and ongoing assessment by our staff and external moderators.

On successful completion you may:
Progress to higher education. This could include one of the creative arts Foundation Degrees at Weston College, which are run in partnership with Bath Spa University. This can lead to careers in advertising, arts administration, fashion, fine art, graphic design, illustration, interior and product design, as well as teaching careers in art and design.

· Most of our students progress to degree level study on completion of this course. We have an excellent track record in placing students on design degree courses.
Achieving this course will give you the equivalent of 3 A Levels and provide entry to study degree level courses.
