We willdiscuss why the French replaced the Third Republic in 1945 and how different was the Fourth model; why the French still have long memories of the war-time years; the role of General de Gaulle in 1945 and in his own Fifth Republic in 1958; the ‘Thirty Glorious Years’ of economic recovery; decolonization and its repercussions; thestudent and worker demonstrations of 1968 and what they changed; France in European institutions; immigration - French solutions; France - still the cultural capital of Europe? The presidential elections of 2017; is it time for a SixthRepublic?
