The course aims to practise reading skills and expand vocabulary. Reading together enables us to enjoy interaction through reading the dialogues of plays by French and francophone playwrights in a relaxed atmosphere. It also helps develop the comprehension of different writing styles and registers, and improve speaking skills through our discussions.

About this course
- have improved your pronunciation, intonation, ('liaisons'), flow of speech through reading French dialogues- enjoy a wider knowledge of French / francophone theatre- express opinions with more confidence.
You will need to obtain the selected texts (all available in paperback). The first play will be "On ne badine pas avec l'amour" by Alfred de Musset. Please read before the first lesson.

Course programme
We will read and discuss plays written by French and Francophone playwrights, classical and modern, humorous and serious. We will (study) read two plays for this erm.
We will read and discuss 2 plays over the term. The tutor will suggest at least the first play, but
suggestions from the group are welcome. Where possible, the course will include video excerpts and interviews
related to the plays. You will be asked to read a few scenes at home too, ahead of the second session for each
play. There will be optional written homework.
