In this evening course we will be looking at number of important works from the permanent collection at Tate Modern. We will explore and discuss some of the key movements, artists and artworks of the 20th century. We will also consider the use of exhibition space, curatorial choices and role of the modern and contemporary art gallery.

About this course

- Describe what is meant by the term ‘Modern Art’
- Share your knowledge of the permanent collection at the Tate Modern and how it is hung
- List at least 3 important modern artists and describe one of their works in the Tate collection.

You might wish to bring a notebook.

Course programme

- Discuss how we define the term ‘Modern Art’
- Explore some of the permanent collection at the Tate Modern and how it is hung
- Look at the work of key modern artists.

You will be taught by looking at and discussing works of art in the galleries at Tate Modern. Please note we are unable to guarantee stools in the rooms that we visit so you might have to stand for periods as we look at artworks.
