Psychology is the study of the mind and the behaviour of individuals. The new A Level is split into two parts, AS and A2. The A2 course is the second part of a two year course. The A2 specification offers a choice of a number ot topic areas. Which topics are studie will be at the discretion of the tutor: PSYA3 Three out of the following eight (a)Biological rhythms and sleep (b)Perception.

A2 Psychology can be studied as part of the full-time A-level programme, in which students are expected to study 3 subjects. It is not possible to study A2 Psychology without first obtaining at least a grade C in AS Psychology

Course Details
Psychology is the study of the mind and the behaviour of individuals. The new A Level is split into two parts, AS and A2. The A2 course is the second part of a two year course. The A2 specification offers a choice of a number ot topic areas. Which topics are studie will be at the discretion of the tutor: PSYA3 Three out of the following eight (a)Biological rhythms and sleep (b)Perception (c)Eating behaviour (d)Aggression (e)Cognition and development (f)Gender (g)Intelligence and learning (h)Relationships PSYA4 Section A:Pssychopathology One from the following disorders: a)Schizophrenia b)Depression c)Anxiety disorders Section B:Psychology in Action One from the following three areas: a)Media psychology, including media influences on social behaviour and the psychology of celebrity b)The psychology of addictive behaviour, including smoking and gambling c)Anomalistic psychology, including ESP, psychokinesis, psychic healing and out-of-body and near death experience Finally, students will extend their knowledge and skills of psychological research and the scientific method, gained in their AS studies The A2 examination takes place in two written papers. A one and a half hour paper and a two hour paper sat on two seperate half days, normally in June (25% of total A Level marks per paper). A resit is available in January.
