About this course

Course aims:
This exciting program has been designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment within the airline industry.
Travel and Tourism is one of the most exciting and vibrant industries in the world. You could be helping someone find their dream holiday, travelling the world as a flight attendant, helping people party in sunny locations as a holiday rep, or progressing through the ranks as a top manager.
Our courses, taught by staff with many years experience working in the industry, also equip you with the skills and confidence to pursue a career
in many other fields.
Studying with us is fun - we go on study trips around the world, from New York to London, and practice using cabin simulators and our real-world travel bureau which sells holidays and flights to staff, students and the general public.
If you are training as cabin crew and air operations, you will wear professional uniform during your time with us. Our BTEC and vocational courses are practical in nature, so when you move into your career you will feel well prepared to meet the challenges.
Plus:
  • NCFE Conflict Management: This course will provide an understanding of how to identify and manage conflict at work by learning communication techniques, with an understanding of conflict and the law.


Course content:
On this course you will study:
  • Introduction to Airline/Aviation operations
  • Airline Health, Safety and security
  • Airline Emergency Procedures
  • Crew Room Duties
  • Role of Cabin Crew (on board)
  • Preparation for employment
  • Airline food service
  • NCFE Conflict Management


Facilities for students:
Some assessment will take place a major airline mock cabin at Gatwick airport in the form of role plays.
We also have aircraft seats, trolleys and equipment that are used regularly.
You will be able to gain real world experience in our travel bureau, City Travel, serving holidays and trips to staff, students and members of the public.

Tutors:
The travel dept is managed by Kevin Green an experienced cabin crew trainer and teacher; he worked in the travel industry for over 15 years as a holiday rep and cabin crew.
All your lecturers have travel experience including cabin crew, resort reps and airport check-in. We have excellent links with major tour operators and award winning airlines.

Assessment: The course is assessed by internal and external bodies with formal progress tests and assignments taken throughout the course and continuous feedback on your progress.
Assessment will be a combination of exams, written work and role plays

Entry Requirements:

Pre-entry preparation:
To update industry knowledge through the internet (eg Travelmole).
Research entry criteria for schedule and charter airlines.

Progression and links:
After successfully completing this course you will have the skills and confidence to move onto one of the Level 3 courses on offer at City College, including the BTEC National Award and Certificate.
Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment and at the age of 18 you can apply directly to be cabin crew.
