About this course
Students in the second year will have an opportunity to participate in the Comenius project which gives some students the chance to work with and visit students in Germany and Hungary.

Course programme
BTEC First courses are vocational alternatives to traditional GCSEs. The Applied Science course covers the basic principles of biology, chemistry and physics, their applications in medicine (diagnosing and treating illness) and how science contributes to society.
Course details
The course is made up of six units divided approximately equally into Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Most students combine the course with improving their grade in either GCSE English Language or Mathematics. There is also the opportunity to develop key skills in IT.
How is it assessed?
Each of the six units is assessed internally through tests, practical investigations or research assignments. There is no external assessment.
Course duration
One year full-time.
What do I need to study this subject?
You should have mainly D grades at GCSE including Double Science, Mathematics and English Language. However, some flexibility is possible.
Where can this lead me?
You can progress to the AS Applied Science course, separate AS Sciences or employment.
What are the enrichment opportunities?
There is an educational trip at the end of the course.
