Art and Design BTEC First Diploma
This is a one year practical course for students keen to study art and design. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in 2D areas such as drawing, photography and painting and 3D areas such as modelling and product design. You will learn by completing projects which allow you to learn new skills and explore your own ideas using a range of art and design media.

You will have access to excellent facilities, including studio space, workshops, specialist art and design resources and materials, digital imaging and the latest in IT.

What will I study?
You will complete practical projects based on design briefs and learn to research and develop your ideas. You will explore a range of techniques, and learn about professional working practices in Art and Design.

You will take 4 core units:

• 2D and 3D Communication
• Contextual References in Art and Design
• Explore and Develop Art and Design Ideas
• Produce an Art and Design Outcome

You will also take 2 specialist units:

• Working with Graphic Design Briefs
• Working with Visual Arts Briefs

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the course through the presentation of your sketch pads and portfolio, including all your projects and coursework. At the end of the year you will produce a Final Major Project.

What can I do next?
On successful completion of the course you will have a qualification equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A-C. You may wish to go on to further study such as the National Diploma in Art and Design, or A levels in Art, 3D Design, Graphic Design, Photography or Textiles.
