Course Description

The BA (Hons) Performing Arts (Theatre Pathway) (Top Up) at University centre, Doncaster aims to equip students with the necessary level of advanced skills, knowledge and understanding needed to gain employment within the Performing Arts industry. The course provides an opportunity for students with a Foundation Degree or HND to further develop their independent study, research, analytical, performance and transferable skills to a BA (Hons) level.

This course offers a broad vision of theatre encompassing a wide range of approaches and styles of performances.

Course Content / Structure

This is a modular programme that develops the work achieved in your HND or Foundation Degree studies. As there are two separate pathways of dance and drama on this course, students are encouraged to work on integrated performance; therefore, theatre and dance students can work alongside each other in three core areas:
  • Performing Arts - Research Studies
  • Production Project
  • Professional Practice


Theatre students also take three specialist modules:
  • Acting
  • Theatre Studies
  • Voice and Movement


Course Assessment

Coursework will be varied and a wide range of assessment procedures will be used. The main area of study is 20th and 21st Century theatre performance. The emphasis is on practical work but you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence indicating preparedness for a professional working life. Written work will include a Long Study of 5000 words, as well as supporting files alongside each practical project.

Entry requirements

A successful interview and audition, and the attainment of one of the following qualifications:
  • Minimum CATS Tariff Points- 240
  • Foundation Degree in a relevant subject
  • HND in a relevant subject- Merit/Distinction Profile
  • Applications are invited from mature students without formal qualifications who can demonstrate a capability to pursue the course successfully.
