Barbering NVQ 2 Full Time/Day Release

Course Content:
The course is based on the New Hairdressing Standards and is specifically related to male clients.
You will learn:
Health & safety in the salon
How to give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
How to advise and consult with clients
Shampoo and conditioning techniques of the hair and scalp
How to cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
How to cut hair to shape using basic techniques
How to dry hair to shape to create a finished look
How to change hair colour using basic techniques
How to promote additional products or services to clients.
All students must study key skills if they are not already qualified to the required standards in IT, maths and English.

Exam:
There is continual assessment of practical work by direct observation from your tutor. The theory element of the course is by oral, written and assignment evidence and a portfolio of evidence must be gathered throughout the year to satisfy internal and external verifiers.

Professional Appearance:
Smart appearance.
Good personal hygiene.
Uniform required (black trousers/skirt, no jeans).
Uniform top approx 15.

Other Costs:
All full time students pay 15 College enrolment fee. Students over 19 pay a VTCT Lifetime Registration Fee of 16 and exam fees of 54 (may be subject to change 2009/10).
Students over 19 years may also be liable for payment of course fees if already in employment/not in receipt of benefit. Cost to be confirmed.
Student Services will be able to advise you accordingly.
A Barbers kit will be required - approximate cost 185 . If you already have a Hairdressing kit a top up kit can be pruchased for approx 85. Order details will be discussed at interview.

Duration:
One year Full-time 3 days to include 1 or 2 late nights, times to be confirmed June 2009. Day release 1 afternoon and 1 evening each week plus full-time employment in a Barbers of Haidressing salon. Day to be confirmed by June 2009.
To include theory sessions, practical demonstrations by a tutor, practise sessions for students, realistic working environment salons (client-based) and tutorials to enhance one-to-one reviews of individual progress.Plus Key Skills as relevant to each individual.
