Level: 1,
Type: Full Time

Aim of course
The aim of this course is to teach students the basic skills required in bricklaying.
What will the course involve?
This course will be assessed by a mix of practical and theory assessment throughout the course culminating in an online exam to test knowledge. Candidates aged 16-19 yrs will also study the BTEC Introduction to Construction and Key Skills in numeracy and literacy. The Key Skills will be studied as an integral part of both the Diploma and BTEC qualifications.
Course Content
Areas of study include: mortar mixes, brick and block laying, setting out, power tools and equipment, site organisation and safety and simple scaffolding techniques. The secondary qualification, the BTEC Introductory Certificate in Construction will teach students about career options in construction and provide health and safety training. This will make progression onto another construction course easier. As 16-19 yr old learners study two qualifications, you will attend college for four days a week; mature students only study the Level 1 Diploma and need only attend for two days (these days will be decided by the Course Tutor to ensure that all areas are covered).
What can I do afterwards?
Students can look to progress onto a Level 2 course or seek a career in the construction industry as a bricklayer.
