Is the course for me?
This course is for students who want to work with children: whether it is with babies, young children or teenagers. It combines practical experiences gained in a variey of child care settings, from day nurseries to schools, alongside learning in college. After completing the course you will gain a nationally recognised qualification in childcare at level 2. This will allow you to work with children 0 - 16 years, in a supervised role. Once you have finished the course you will have the opportunity to progress onto a level 3 programme of study within this area.

What will I learn?
You will cover five core units including:- * Child development. * keeping children safe * communication * Preparing and maintaining a child care setting * Professional development * A further specialist unit covering children's play and learning will be undertaken. You will gain plenty of opportunities to 'do' practical actitivities, alongside academic learning, whilst you are in College. Also, as part of this course you will receive practical 'hands on' experience working with children aged 0 - 8 years in both primary schools and day nurseries . A Criminal Records Background Check for this working with children is a statutory requirement. The paperwork for this must be completed at the start of the course. No student will be allowed on placement until this has been done. A uniform is required to be worn at college and in placement. The cost of one uniform is approximately £15.

How will I be assessed?
This course is continually assessed throughout the years using a range of methods for example: observations, activities and written assignments cover all of the core and specialist units will be *You will undertake key skills portfolio building. *In addition to this, when on work placement, you wil have to demonstrate your ability to work with children in a professional manner. You will complete a placement report which will include feedback from your supervisor.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress onot the BTEC (EDEXCEL) National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development. There are also other Level 3 Child Care or Health and Social Care courses available.
