WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The HND in Media (Moving Image) at South Leicestershire College is designed to be an exciting and interactive way to develop your skills as a future film and television producer. The curriculum has two clear strands:
Units designed to develop the practical side of your skills as a film maker and units designed to introduce you to key theoretical approaches and theories in media.
These strands are underpinned by a range of work practice opportunities with ITV, ICE Media and EAVA FM amongst others. They are set up in the form of a series of workshops and practical projects to build pre-production, production, and post production practical skills. The theory side of things will allow you to build a range of critical approaches to research and deconstructing media product.
Throughout the curriculum you will be presented with a range of briefs, either set by staff at the college, or (more likely) set by the various media partners and organisations that are involved in partnership with the college. You will be expected to be pro-active and creative in your response to the briefs, consolidating the technical knowledge and expertise you have picked up in the workshops. To back up the work experience elements of the course is a unit on the media industry which will explore ownership, the jobs market and issues associated with gaining (self) employment in an era of convergence.
We look forward to helping you to achieve the highest practical and academic standards in your studies so you are able to progress to new levels of employment and study.
Based at the Media Centre for Excellence in Film and Television, there are possibilities for you to gain work experience with ITV, ICE Media and EAVA FM amongst others.
