Course programme
Full Time BTEC National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Course Description:
The programme has been developed for those who are intending to follow a career in either electrical or electronic engineering and wish to follow an alternative route to that of A Levels and sixth form. Although the programme is vocationally orientated towards engineering, it will not prevent anyone from selecting other career routes at a later stage. The programme is largely academic but it contains significant practical elements. The National Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.
The programme consists of associated subjects, or units, all of the same duration. A total of 17 units are required to gain the Diploma (for details of the units to be studied, please see full course leaflet). During the course, a range of subjects are covered that introduce many aspects of Electrical/Electronic technology. These are complemented with other subjects to provide a sound basis for the needs of an Electrical or Electronic engineer. Key skills in Application of Number, Communications and Information Technology are also an integral part of the course. For details on the units to be studied, please refer to the course leaflet.
Course Type: Full Time
Entry Requirements:
Candidates will require a minimum of four GCSE’s or equivalent at grade C or above in Mathematics, Double Science and an English subject. Other subjects may be accepted by negotiation. A City & Guilds (Lv2) in engineering or similar along with appropriate Key Skills qualifications will also be acceptable. Any other qualification or experience will need to be discussed with the tutor.
Progression & AssessmentAssessment and Progression:
The assessment of a candidate’s progress in each unit will be judged on the results of assignments and/or phase tests and/or end test. Progress reports will be issued halfway through each year and at the end of each year.
Success in this programme will gain you entry to Higher Education on either Higher National Diploma or Degree courses.
