About this course

Learners will normally require one of the following:
5 GCSEs grade C+ and a minimum of Maths and English at grade D
Intermediate GNVQ at Merit or BTEC 1st Diploma at Merit Level plus 2 Functional Skills at level 2
Equivalent qualifications
Learners over 20 years old without formal qualifications will be given every consideration.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
On this course you will investigate the travel and tourism industries, looking at retail travel, tour operators and tourist destinations. You will develop the skills you need for future employment or higher education, plus develop an understanding of customer service, business and marketing.

In addition to the BTEC units you will also undertake both the theory and practical skills associated with both
Airline Cabin Crew and Overseas Representatives.

WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for approximately 20 hours per week. In addition you will need to spend 6 - 8 hours per week on coursework at home or in college. You will need to complete assignments to set deadlines, participate in visits and represent the college in a work placement.

This is an 18 unit qualification equivalent to 3 A levels (2 years) and includes units on:

Marketing
Tourist destinations
Visitor attractions
Customer service & working in the travel industry
Retail Travel - Travel Agencies
Holiday Representatives
Passenger Transport Operations
Preparing for Employment in the Travel Industry
Cruise Sector

You will also study towards Professional Certificates including:

City & Guilds Travel Destinations level 1, 2 & 3
NCFE Level 2 qualification in Airline Cabin Crew
NCFE level 2 qualification in Overseas representatives

On your course you will have a tutorial period which is designed to support your learning and assist your progress. In addition there are activities to enrich your experience, including visits, work experience and a residential.

The College is committed to you studying for national qualifications in Maths, English and ICT within your vocational course. This will help you get the most out of your work, education and everyday life.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
You will gain a BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism and a Certificate in Functional Skills, as well as professionally recognised qualifications such as Travel Destinations level 1 & 2 and NCFE Overseas representative & Airline Cabin Crew.
You will also complete a programme of Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.

1b112-09 2nd year fees 0 16-18 year olds, 43(23) 19 years and over

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
You can go into employment; typical jobs have recently been Business Travel Advisers and Customer Service Executives in the travel industry.
