BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts (Musical Theatre)
Length of Course: 2 years
Course Description: This course is designed to develop skills in all aspects of Musical Theatre. Students will attend classes in the three performance areas of Drama, Music and Dance. A broad range of techniques and practices are developed including:
- Musical Theatre Performance
- Jazz Dance
- Ballet
- Singing
- Music Performance
- Acting
- Vocal Skills
- Tap Dance.
Students have the opportunity to perform in many productions, take part in workshops with an outside professional as well as undertaking relevant work experience.
This is a demanding course with 60% practical and 40% coursework.
Entry Requirements:
- Available to students with 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above or
- A related First Diploma or
- Mature students with relevant qualifications and/or experience.
It would be highly desirable to have relevant performance experience or qualifications in one of the three art forms - Drama, Dance or Music. Entry to this course is by audition and interview.
Progression/Career Opportunities:
- The National Diploma in Musical Theatre provides a practical alternative to the A Level route, and offers students progression onto a HND or Degree course or
- Employment within the Arts and Entertainment Industry.

Two former Bridgend College Musical Theatre Students are currently performing in West end productions. Laura Selwood is playing a lead role in the west end production of 'Mama Mia' and Richard Jackson is currently principal dancer in 'We Will Rock You'.
