As with all BTEC National qualifications, subjects are taught in a vocational context. You will develop your knowledge of how all the major business functions work in practice, including finance, Human Resources, management and marketing. A BTEC National Diploma qualification is directly equivalent to three A-levels and offers a good opportunity for progression to Higher Education (HE) or employment in the broad business sector.
Course Content:
This course equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 A-Levels, depending upon successful progression through the Award, Certificate and Diploma levels. The course is made up of 18 units, consisting of six core units which all students must take, and 12 further optional units of your own choice. Optional Units:
These units enable you to study particular areas in more depth and, if you wish, focus your study on your main area of interest, such as finance, Human Resources, management or marketing. Students select 12 from a choice that includes:

- Introduction to accounting
- Introduction to marketing
- Marketing research
- E-business and internet marketing
- Recruitment and selection
- Employer and employee relations
- Human resource management
- Managing a business project or event

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should hold one of the following:

- BTEC First Diploma in a relevant subject, preferably at Merit or distinction plus GCSE English and Maths at Grade C
Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Assessment is wholly through coursework and is continuous throughout the course. Two core units are externally set and marked by EDEXCEL. The overall grade for the qualification (Distinction, Merit or Pass) is based on performance across all units.
Progression Routes:
The qualification is suitable for progression to Higher Education. It is also possible to gain entry to professional qualifications, such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development.
Career Options:
Successful students will be equipped with a sound business acumen and qualities that are valued by many employers in a wide range of industries. Career opportunities in business specialisms such as accounting and marketing are obtainable.

The College offers the BTEC Introductory Diploma and First Diploma in Business for students that may not meet the entry requirements for the BTEC National Diploma. Also available is the HND and BA in Business, a logical progression from this course.
