College and placement Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Course description
The Diploma course aims to prepare candidates to work competently, safely and effectively with children aged 0 - 16 years in nurseries, schools, hospitals, family centres etc.

Course Structure
There are 12 units which include written assignments, an examination and research

task. Units to be studied include:

Mandatory Units:

• An introduction to working with children
• Development from conception to age 16 years
• Support children
• Keeping children safe
• The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children
• Promoting a healthy environment for children
• Play and learning in children†s education
• Caring for children
• Development of professional skills within children†s education

Plus 3 optional units

Course Assessment
These assignments have hand in dates set by the exam board which must be strictly adhered to.

Course Entry requirements

• 4 GCSEs grades A-C including English.
• Cache Diploma in Childcare Level 2 at Distinction

• All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
• Two references must be provided. Application of CRB and Uniform must be applied for.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

There will be fees for CRB of £36.00 and uniform costs of approx. £20.00.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with electronic babies and take part in a work placement.
