Child Care and Education: CaCHE Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma
This is a level 3 course equivalent to five GCSE grades A-C. Integral to academic study, students are required to complete work placements with young children.

Course details
There are twelve units of study spread over the two years. You will learn how to keep children safe and study the principles underpinning the role of practitioner working with children. Students study three days in College and attend placement for two days.

How is it assessed?
The majority of units are assessed internally and there are three external assessments spread over the two year course.

Two years full-time.

What do I need to study this subject?
You should have five GCSE grades A*-C including English Language and Maths or Science at C grade, a good record of attendance and punctuality, and good communication skills (speaking and listening). Prior work experience in an early years setting, either as a volunteer or through school, is desirable but not essential. All students are required to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check at the beginning of the course.

Where can this lead me?
The course can lead to employment in an early years setting, or to higher education including: degree courses in teaching, child nursing or psychology.

What are the enrichment opportunities?
We offer work experience in statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations, as well as overseas residential study experience. There are visits to early learning centre and specialist health settings for babies and young children. Year 2 students are given the opportunity to complete a First Aid certificate.
